an underlying layer that supports the primary layer.
In the context of furniture, it refers to the core of
the material (example: chipboard) rather than the
decorative layer (example: laminate, veneer etc.)

suitable binder, which is pressed and extruded
Upstand
an upstand is a small strip of worktop, glass or
acrylic that fits in the rear wall edge of your worktop
Melamine
single sheet and is heat / pressured to the board
(substrate). (Not exclusive for rear wall material)
Laminate
has multiple sheets, a protective layer, and is glued
/ heat / pressured to the board (substrate)
MDF

Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) is a particleboard
made from composite wood. MDF is made from wood
waste (specifically the fibres) and glued together using
either heat, resin or pressure
MFC
Government Contracts (1977)
MFC is usually of a wood grain, which is repeatedly
printed onto a Melamine film, and heat processed
onto chipboard. MFC is a budget alternative to High
Pressure Laminate table tops. Not suitable for labs.
Recommended for only suitable for I.T. benching.
